MINUTES - BOARD MEETING
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2004
PENN STATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
GREATER JACKSONVILLE CHAPTER
PRESENT: Bill Dusack, President, Danielle Howard, Secretary, Bob Streightiff, Treasurer, Richard Holtz, Athletic Events Chair, Jim Schultz, Volunteer Chair, and Jodie Davis, Social Chair.
ABSENT: Josiah Pritchard, Vice President and Judie Crabb, Ad Hoc Member.
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM by Bill Dusack, President.
The minutes of the November 18, 2003 meeting were reviewed and approved 6 - 0.
President's Report - Bill reviewed materials forwarded by the University. He shared an invitation from the Palm Coast Chapter for an open house event they are having on Feb 21st. Unfortunately that date conflicts with our Chapter's dinner at the Olive Garden.
Bill mentioned that he had appointed Howard Weisz to head up the committee to nominate replacements for the board, specifically Bill's position as president. He mentioned that Howard might contact some of the current board members to assist him with the search.
Vice President's Report - No report.
Secretary's Report - Danielle remarked that she would send an email reminder for the ROAR into spring dining event on February 21st at 7pm at the Olive Garden on Phillips.
Treasurer's Report - Bob reported that as on January 30, 2004 or account balance was $3,521.56. During the quarter from October 1, 2003 to December 31, 2003 the chapter took in $25 worth of dues.
Athletics Chair - Rich reported he is still trying to coordinate the chapter getting together to watch a basket ball game but hasn't had any luck with the scheduling so far.
Volunteer Chair - Jim reported that all is quiet on the volunteer front. He hasn't heard anything from the HabiJax kids this year. The possibility of ushering at the FCCJ artist series again was brought up. Jim stated that you now need a background check to volunteer as an usher. The possibility of volunteering at the Channel 7 auction was also mentioned.
Social Chair - Jodie reported that the dinner at Ruth Chris was a success, with 22 people attending. She reminded the board that the Olive Garden dinner has been moved to February 21, 2004 and that will leave March open to plan the Spring Event.
Rich brought up that a member would like us to consider having one of the dinners at the River Club at the top of the Modis Building.
Bill brought up spring activities. The idea of a mini thon coinciding with PSU's thon fell flat on its face. Bill only received 6 responses to the email he sent out, and most of them were from board members.
Bill said that Drew Jackson, the Channel 4 weather guy, is a Penn Stater and agreed that he would speak at a spring dinner so long as it was by the end of March.
Jim looked into the naval base at Mayport and it is available on Saturday, March 14th. Room rental is $285 and a basic dinner would be $12 per person + tax + tip. Bill looked into Jacksonville Country Club on March 13th. There is a 40 person minimum, $200 room rental, and a basic meal is $15 + tip + tax. We could also have a cash bar.
Rich brought up having the spring dinner/annual meeting at the Budweiser Brewery. Jodie mentioned Sun Cruise Casinos and Dave and Buster's. Jodie's church is also a possibility. Jodie will look into several options and see what is available on Saturday, March 20th.
Bill will order mailing labels for the entire chapter for the spring mailer.
A follow-up meeting to finalize plans for the spring event was scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2004, at 7:00 pm
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Danielle C. Howard
Secretary
