President’s Report: see upcoming Singing Lions information

Vice President’s Report: There has been a problem with the website.  The person kind enough to host our website for free changed servers and Danielle cannot log on to make any changes or updates.  We might have to move to website in order to gain access.  Candice suggests Go Daddy.com because it is cheap and easy to use.  Josiah made a motion to move it and Bob seconded.  The motion passed.  We will still be paying the annual fee for the domain name in addition to our new server fee.  Danielle will update the website once it is working again.

Secretary’s Report:  Although it is far in the future, Amy suggested having a canned food drive prior to November football games to make a donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Josiah agreed as it will help us to maintain our certificate of distinction while helping underprivileged families.

Treasurer’s Report:  The statement of expenses reports that we have a balance of $2024.17.  We currently have 108 paid members.  To boost membership it was suggested that we send a letter to those who have become inactive to see if they still want to be members.  A draft letter will be written and sent once we have a comprehensive list of paid and unpaid members from the last several years.

Sports Report: Turn out has been steady at the monthly luncheons.  Men’s VB is #1.  Basketball is getting better every year.

Admission- 4 college fairs were done last year.  Jim Schultz, Jerry Raderman and Mary Yanda help but Rich is requesting any other help that might be available.  The goal is 6 or 7 people to man the events.  Candice and Mike said that they would be interested in helping. The University will provide training to help volunteers answer questions.  There are probably a dozen students from the area that are attending PSU right now.

Social Chair Report:  Dining with the Lions.  The January 24th event at Ragtime is already scheduled.  Upcoming dates are. February 21st, March 8th, , April 18th , May 16th.  Danielle pointed out that with money tight for everyone in this economy, we should try to hold events at some less expensive locations.  The Olive Garden had a great turn out several years ago. Candice will also check on Chicago pizza as a possible location for Penn State trivia night.

Upcoming Events:  The Singing Lions will be coming to Jacksonville on Sunday March 8th 2009.  Candice suggests that we go to Beach Bowl- bowling with the students to give them an activity while they are on spring break rather than just eating and talking.  Rich suggested taking the kids to the beach.  Bob said that we really need to publicize better in order to get a better attendance.  Get in touch with senior centers, churches and nursing homes.  Post on free websites.  Rich suggested Beach Road chicken for dinner and we can eat at the church.  Food brings people together.  Bob is on record not to do this each year due to costs.  Josiah suggests if there is a breakdown in the plans they could just stay and visit and interact but not perform.  Once we confirm if we have a performance location, we will firm up any plans for concerts, dinner or other events.  We will have housing needs regardless of performance but will wait on details to provide those kind enough to house with the most comprehensive information.  We will potentially send out another postcard reminder,

New Business—Josiah suggested some kind of fundraiser to raise money since the club has been financing lots of events of late.   50/50 raffles and score guessing at games are possible ideas.  He also suggested a possible golf tournament with other Big Ten Alumni Associations in town.  Bob pointed out that golf might exclude many alumni in the area who do not play, and many agreed.  Amy thought that maybe we could have a huge picnic with the other alumni at Hanna Park.  Josiah will contact the other associations for a possible event.   We can connect via email as needed once more information becomes available.

A motion was made to accept all reports. Josiah motioned first and Amy Seconded. The motion passed.

The next meeting date will be April 28th   2009 at Bob’s house.  Details for the upcoming newsletter will be discussed at that time.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20.

Respectfully submitted,

Amy Latner, Secretary
