Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Penn State Alumni Association Greater Jacksonville Chapter
Present: Josiah Pritchard, President, Danielle Howard, Vice President, Amy Latner Secretary, Mike Anderson, Treasurer, Rich Holtz, Athletic Chair, Bob Streightiff, Ex-Member Advisor
Absent: Carrie Richter, membership recruitment
The meeting was called to order at 6:47 pm by Josiah Pritchard, President.
The minutes from January 13, 2009 were approved and adopted via email.
President’s Report: Josiah will get the mailing allowance from the University for our upcoming newsletter. He will also arrange the raffle prizes and any other banquet goodies that he can from the University.
Vice President’s Report: Danielle needs all newsletter information no later than July 10th as she is going on vacation. She will print the newsletters and mail them from her office if we can get her the information on time.
Secretary’s Report: So far only 25 people have RSVP’ed for the summer picnic. A reminder was sent out yesterday, and we usually get lots of last minute acceptance emails. Hopefully this will be the case. Amy and Danielle will get together to see what supplies are needed and purchase what is necessary. All board members who have coolers are requested to bring them for ice, food and beverages. Board will provide drinks, main dish, paper products and charcoal for grilling. Also, Amy submitted a receipt for $42.80 for reimbursement for the pavilion rental.
Treasurer’s Report: We presently have $2,589.35 in our account. We still have outgoing funds of Singing Lions food and donation to account for. This will be reflected on the next account summary.
Sports Report: We won the NIT Championships and beat Florida! YAY! Our Men’s Volleyball team will be in the NCAA final four later this week. They will be playing Southern Cal, it will be televised. The Blue/White game was not televised at all this year. Our Women’s Rugby team won the National Championship. No other sports news.
Social Chair Report: Dining with the Lions recap: 2 months ago dinner was at Carrabba’s. Last month we ate at Chicago Pizza. The last dinner went very well. Candice created a very difficult but fun trivia game with tons of prizes. Danielle also suggested The Crabcake Factory for a future dining experience. Previous attendance in the summer for DWTL has been poor, but we will try a June dinner this year on June 27th. Candice will call to see what they have available.
Singing Lions Update: We had the biggest crowd this year and managed to do it in a revenue neutral way. Several non Penn Staters were present. Everyone seemed to enjoy the concert.
Upcoming Events: We will schedule our banquet again this year at Dave and Buster’s on August 15th or 29th. Rich once again suggested trying to get Kyle Brady as a speaker. He will contact Bill Bender to see what we can arrange. Candice also might plan another trivia game to make the raffle prizes more of a challenge. Amy and Danielle will organize the desserts and giftbags again.
We also are planning to get our newsletters out in early July. Deadline for information is July 10th. We will include our dues reminder in the newsletter. Dues will remain the same this year- all members agreed that there is no reason to raise them. The stuffing party will be July 18th at Candice’s house, time TBA.
New Business: Candice suggested finding a list of other financial aide resources to provide potential students at the college fairs. Amy also remembered that we never printed up t-shirts from the vote at last year’s banquet. We will put order forms in the next newsletter and get some t-shirts made. Per Candice’s request Josiah will contact the University to see if there are any other groups that travel like the Singing Lions.
A motion was made to accept all reports. Josiah motioned first and Amy and Mike Seconded. The motion passed.
The next meeting date will be determined, if needed, prior to the banquet.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:43pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Amy Latner, Secretary
